In an impressive display of talent and determination, 20-year-old diving dynamo Carson Tyler from Georgia has secured his chance to plunge into Olympic history after qualifying for not one, but two diving events for the upcoming Paris Games. According to WABE, Tyler, a Moultrie native, nailed his spots on the U.S. Olympic Diving team during the trials at the University of Tennessee aquatics center this past weekend. He'll be representing Team USA in both the men's 3-meter springboard and 10-meter platform events - a feat no American has managed since Mark Ruiz did 24 years ago, back in 2000.

Carson Tyler's victory in the 10-meter platform secured his first event for Paris, but it was finishing second to Andrew Capobianco in the 3-meter that really set his Olympic journey in motion. Tyler managed to keep his scores consistently high throughout the competition, not allowing them to dip below 71 points for any of his six dives. Despite Capobianco taking the gold in the 3-meter with a score of 971.80 points over Tyler's 945.75, Tyler's determination clung tightly to the narrative, whispering the possibility of Olympic greatness. "I am definitely feeling it, but the adrenaline helps," Tyler told WABE. "I was a little tired today, but I really just dug deep and we made it through."

On the women's side of the competition, diver Delaney Schnell will also be attending the Games to compete in two events. She secured her spot in synchronized 10-meter with partner Jess Parratto and will also dive solo. Schnell ended her trials run with 638.00 points - enough to maintain an 18.1-point lead despite a couple of performances that saw her scoring below par. Her grit and resilience will certainly make her one to watch in Paris. "Today was a tough one," Schnell told WABE. "It’s been go, go, go with lots of reps on 10-meter. I was battling a little exhaustion today, a little mental exhaustion."

The Paris bound divers have shown that even when fatigue sets in, the hunger to reach the Olympic stage can push them to not only meet, but exceed expectations. As the athletes turn their focus to finessing their craft, the rest of Team USA will be doing the same, aiming to leave indelible marks in the pools of Paris. With USA Diving potentially up for a second spot in women’s 10-meter after World Aquatics reallocates quota spots, there's a chance for even more athletes to join the fray. Daryn Wright, who finished as the runner-up to Schnell with 596.35 points, may still to be seen leaping for glory when the world convenes in the city of lights this summer.
