The Glendale Police Department inaugurated its new Montrose Substation at a ribbon-cutting ceremony on June 7, an effort aimed at bolstering community policing efforts in the area. The substation, unveiled in a ceremony packed with community members and dignitaries, is situated at 3600 Ocean View Blvd., #11, as reported by the City of Glendale's official website. It comes as a strategic move by the department to enhance police visibility in the sector and to make it easier for officers to accomplish tasks without returning to the main station downtown.

"Having a substation in Montrose is a big deal," said Chief Manny Cid, articulating that community partnerships are a pivotal part of public safety success. Addressing the attendees, the chief emphasized, "Even though Glendale has a small-town feel, we’re a 30-square-mile city." The substation is expected to chop down response times and serve as a visible deterrent to potential criminals.

Replacing its predecessor positioned above Honolulu Ave, the new facility offers a workspace for the police to conduct administrative work like filing reports and also serves as a touchpoint for police-resident relations. Attendants of the opening ceremony included members of the Glendale Police and Fire Departments, Glendale City Council members, and representatives from the Montrose Shopping Park Association and the Montrose Verdugo City Chamber of Commerce.

Officials from diverse political spectrums, including Los Angeles County Supervisor Kathryn Barger and State legislators like Assemblymember Laura Friedman and State Senator Anthony Portantino, extended their congratulations. They brought with them remarks celebrating the initiative, as per the information relayed via the City of Glendale's announcement. Yet, the Montrose Substation will not maintain regular open hours, and residents are directed to use established phone lines for the Glendale Police Department for various types of contact, including emergencies and non-emergent situations.

The Glendale Police Department, which was established in 1906 and boasts around 250 sworn officers, continues to uphold its commitment to public safety services characterized by proactive measures, community partnerships, and professional conduct. With the new Montrose Substation, the department reinforces that drive, providing yet another anchor for the integrated safety net they envision for the community.
