A Harris County man, Rafielle Andrews, 40, has been charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon following a stabbing incident on Sandlewood Trail Lane, as reported by FOX 26 Houston. Andrews appeared in court Thursday accused of attacking a woman with a knife and then stabbing a man in the chest who later collapsed and died in his driveway; he was apprehended while allegedly trying to stop drivers with a knife in his hand.
According to a statement obtained by ABC 13, the deadly assault occurred shortly after Chris Dang, 49, was returning home from a job interview Andrews, who had a toy in one hand and a knife in the other, flagged down Dang and when Dang rolled down his window Andrews attacked him, despite his weapon initially having a sheath on it. Dang was able to drive back home, wounded and bleeding where his mother witnessed him in distress and the family immediately called 911 upon realizing their son had been stabbed in the chest.
The victim's family reported enduring agonizing moments which were captured on their surveillance camera while waiting for paramedics, Chris Dang was pronounced dead at 5:17 p.m., shortly after paramedics arrived, and authorities arrested the suspect right away, who reportedly has "an extensive criminal record and established mental health issues," according to ABC 13.
Neighbors and the Dang family are now seeking to comprehend the motive behind the unprovoked attack "He killed my son, he had a mental illness, he would have killed somebody else later," Dang's mother, Hoa Duong, told ABC 13, expressing a grim reality of the situation that unfolded, wherein her son became a random target for Andrews. The family is also concerned about the response time from law enforcement and paramedics, which could become a subject of future investigation. Meanwhile, they are currently focused on planning a funeral to lay Chris Dang to rest; he was one of six siblings.
