According to a statement from the sheriff's office, north and southbound traffic on Forest Acres at East Mount Houston was closed as investigators worked the scene. Ruiz was pronounced dead, adding a grim statistic to the growing toll of gun violence in the area. The investigators, now working to piece together the tragic puzzle, have yet to release further details on the suspects or their motives.
HCSO's Homicide Unit has released an update identifying Ruiz, and revealing that the altercation followed a confrontation between him, several co-workers, and a group of unidentified males. The discussion, whatever its nature, escalated to violence - leading to the suspects, described as several Hispanic males driving a light-colored SUV, to open fire on Ruiz.
The sheriff's office is calling for any witnesses with information to come forward, in hopes that the community might shine a light on the perpetrators of this heinous act. "Anyone with info is asked to contact the @HCSOTexas Homicide Unit at 713-274-9100 or @CrimeStopHOU at 713-222-TIPS (8477)," the sheriff's office urged, releasing a lifeline for justice in a statement obtained by local authorities.
