A graduation party in southeast Houston turned tragic when a man was fatally shot and another injured in what police believe was a drive-by shooting early Sunday. At approximately 1 a.m., Houston Police Department officers arrived at the scene on the 7000 block of Moss Rose Street, where a celebration was taking place in honor of a high school graduate. Houston Chronicle reports that upon arrival, police discovered one man with a fatal gunshot wound to the head.

Identified by police at the scene, the deceased was found in the driveway, and an adult according to Houston Chronicle. Struck by a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the leg, another male victim's age was not disclosed by police, and he was transported to Memorial Hermann Hospital.

Jodi Silva, a Houston Police Department spokesperson, detailed that witnesses reported the shooter fired into the crowd gathered at the party. She also mentioned that there was a possibility of a return fire from some of those attending. The relationship between the shooter and party-goers, if any, remains unknown. KIAH coverage of the event notes that police have not publicly identified a suspect or established a clear motive behind the shooting.

HPD officers who responded to the shooting call also indicated an adjacent street, Floral, as part of the location perimeter. According to KIAH, the incident involved a vehicle from which shots were fired toward a group near the front of the home where the graduation party was held. The investigation is ongoing as officials work to uncover further details surrounding the incident.
