A suspect has been taken into custody following a violent altercation in a Houston apartment complex located at 1715 Enclave Parkway yesterday morning. According to City of Houston News, the man identified as James Edward Tillman, 31, has faced charges including two counts of aggravated assault of a family member. These charges were filed within the 337th State District Court.
Injured in the process, Tillman is still hospitalized, and due to his condition, officials have yet to release his booking photograph. During the struggle before dawn, allegedly involving a knife and a firearm, the mother acted to protect her child. Upon responding to a call about the incident around 4:50 a.m., Houston police uncovered the dynamics of this family in distress.
The conflict, as "HPD Major Assaults & Family Violence Division Detective L. Garcia reported," escalated when Tillman, holding his 11-year-old daughter at knife-point, was confronted by the child's mother – a 32-year-old woman wielding a firearm for defence. Charging at her, Tillman inflicted wounds with his knife and attempted to wrest the gun from her, which discharged, striking him in the face and lower body.
The chain of events, resulted in non-life-threatening gunshot injuries for Tillman and minor injuries for the woman. While she was reasonably treated and released, the suspect remains under the care of medical professionals. The juvenile involved in the case was fortunate enough to escape physical harm amidst the chaos.
After consultations with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, charges against Tillman were established for his involvement in the altercation. Details about the legal proceedings and the current status of the suspect are forthcoming as the investigation progresses.
