A pedestrian lost his life in a collision with a van in Houston last night, and local authorities are in the process of piecing together the circumstances surrounding the incident. According to a report from the Houston Police Department, the unidentified 37-year-old man was crossing the street at 1200 South Wayside Drive when he was struck by a Ford van around 9 p.m. yesterday
Emergency services were called to the scene and the man was pronounced dead. The driver, a 66-year-old male, initially left the scene but later returned. Upon his return, Houston police noted that he did not exhibit any signs of intoxication. As reported by the City of Houston News, the driver was "questioned and released pending further investigation to determine who was at fault."
The victim's identity has yet to be officially verified as the investigation is ongoing. The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences is expected to perform this verification soon. The case, falling under the purview of the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division, is being handled by Sergeant J. Richards and Officer C. Moralez.
While no charges have been filed at this time, the Houston police are seeking additional witnesses to the crash. Left with questions that demand answers, they urge anyone with information to come forward and contact the HPD Hit and Run Unit at 713-247-4072.
