Early Sunday morning, a man's life ended tragically on the Southwest Freeway when the motorcycle he was driving was struck in a hit-and-run incident. The collision occurred around 4:10 a.m. on the 9600 block of the freeway, Houston police have reported. While we wait to learn the name of the 37-year-old victim, pending formal identification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, the impact of his untimely death resonates throughout the community.
According to official information released by the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division, the victim was traveling eastbound on his black Harley Davidson when a white BMW 320i, heading in the same direction, collided with him. The force of the crash ejected the motorcyclist, sending him into an adjacent grassy area where his journey, in the most final of ways, came to an abrupt end.
As the motorcyclist lay lifeless, the scene continued to unfold with the driver of the BMW losing control, traversing the grassy area, and then fleeing the scene via eastbound service road. This callous departure from a scene of such gravity adds layers of outrage and urgency to the investigation, with Sergeant E. Alejandro and Officer J. Leon of the HPD leading the inquest. The search for the BMW, and more critically, the identity of its driver, is ongoing, with authorities appealing to the public for assistance.
Justice now hinges on the slender thread of hope that witnesses, or anyone with knowledge of the incident, will come forward. Houston police urge those with information on a wanted vehicle or the identity of the driver to reach out to the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division at 713-247-4072. Additionally, there's an option to provide information anonymously through Crime Stoppers by dialing 713-222-TIPS.
