Commuters in Northeast Minneapolis should prepare for road closures as infrastructure upgrades are set to continue into the summer. CenterPoint Energy is in the midst of a project to replace its natural gas main along the BNSF railroad corridor, extending from 85th Avenue NW to Osborne Road NE. This work necessitates the closure of 77th Avenue NE at the railroad, beginning approx. June 13 through 28, 2024, according to a recent announcement from CenterPoint Energy.
During the closure period, those traveling in the area will need to reroute as 77th Avenue NE will be inaccessible between the railroad tracks and Beech Street NE. Detours will direct traffic via Osborne Road NE, and East River Road. The disruption, which is set to facilitate the installation of a new gas main roughly 540 feet south of 77th Avenue NE, into the Johnson Printing & Packaging property also includes subsequent restoration work in the affected locales. CenterPoint Energy's contractors, Michels Corporation and Q3 Contracting, are tasked with the job of replacing the infrastructure, and making good the landscape after.
Residents and local businesses who may face inconvenience during this time can stay up-to-date on the progress of the work. Updates are available on the CenterPoint Energy website, offering insight into the current and forthcoming stages of the project. The company has expressed its gratitude to the community for their patience during these improvements, stating they are "upgrading our infrastructure" to better serve the area. It's clear that with growing urban demands, the upkeep, and advancement of such utilities are crucial for the seamless functioning of modern cities. Residents looking forward to the end of construction can anticipate a return to normal traffic patterns roughly by the end of June.
