
The annual MADD Texas awards banquet, a sober event marked by the acknowledgment of those combating the perpetual issue of impaired driving, unfolded recently with a salute to several exemplary officers from the DWI Unit and the area’s diligent patrol officers. The Irving Police Department showcased the honors, awarding Officer Jonker the Distinguished Enforcement Hero Award for his unwavering efforts on the front lines of the fight against driving under the influence.
The 'Outstanding Education Award' reached Officer Holman and Sgt. Maynard, for their role in educating the public on the dangers of impaired driving. Still fresh on the force, Officer Porterfield secured the 'Outstanding Rookie Award', signaling a promising future for the officer in the ongoing campaign for road safety.
A standing in for Officer Carter, Sgt. Payne accepted the 'Outstanding Service Award' on his behalf, a testament to the collaborative spirit that defines the unit's endeavor to protect and serve. "Great job ya’ll!!!" the Irving Police Department exclaimed in its post, concise yet robust praise for the officers' collective achievements in a perilous field where the consequences of failure are measured in lives lost and families shattered.
