Memphis is offering city residents an opportunity to declutter their homes and dispose of unwanted items in an environmentally responsible way. According to the City of Memphis website, the local government is hosting a Dumpster Day Cleanup this upcoming Saturday, June 8, at 940 Early Maxwell Blvd. The cleanup event, which is set to help keep the community tidy, will start at 8 a.m. and run till 2 p.m., with the entrance located off Central Avenue.
While the event is aimed at helping residents get rid of the old junk that's been taking up space, there are certain items that the city won't accept such as fuel tanks, motor oil, hazardous waste — paint, paint thinner, and anti-freeze are specifically named, and more; also, pool chemicals, commercial waste, pesticides, batteries, liquids, animal carcasses, or tires with rims are on the not-accepted list, those looking to participate should be mindful of these limitations and plan accordingly. Residents also need to know that commercial haulers and contractors will not be allowed to drop off items, and if you're driving a U-Haul or any similar vehicle you will be turned away, but single-axle trailers are permitted.
All participants are encouraged to double-check their items before heading out to ensure a smooth process and to prevent any unnecessary confusion or delays at the drop-off point. This initiative not only aids in waste management but also supports the city's efforts in maintaining cleanliness and promoting eco-friendly practices among its populace. By disposing of waste properly, Memphis residents contribute to the protection of their urban environment and the well-being of the community at large.
For those interested in participating in the City of Memphis Dumpster Day Cleanup or for more information about the items that are accepted and the logistical details of the event, the city has provided resources and updates which can be found at the official City of Memphis Dumpster Day page.
