
A deputy-involved shooting in Jurupa Valley has left one man in critical condition following a distress call to assist a bleeding and disoriented individual. According to a statement released by the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, deputies responded to the scene at the intersection of 53rd Street and Cedar Street on Saturday morning.
Upon arrival at approximately 11:12 a.m., deputies found the man and initiated medical aid. The situation escalated when the man produced a knife and began stabbing himself, eventually charging at one of the deputies while armed. The sheriff’s department reported that "a deputy-involved shooting occurred," resulting in the suspect being shot. Deputies continued to provide medical assistance until paramedics arrived and transported the individual to a local hospital.
The name of the suspect has yet to be published, and the deputy involved in the shooting has been placed on paid administrative leave in accordance to department policies. The Riverside County District Attorney's Office and the Riverside Sheriff's Force Investigations Detail are heading the ongoing investigation.
Authorities have not disclosed additional information due to the active status of the inquiry. However, they are urging anyone with pertinent details about the incident to come forward and contact either Riverside County District Attorney Investigator Eric Crosson or Riverside County Sheriff’s Master Investigator Martin Alfaro at 951–955–2700.
No other injuries have been reported in connection with the incident. The department has designated their Media Information Bureau as the point of contact for any further media inquiries. The investigation is still active, and more details will emerge as they become available.
