Fireworks and baseball are colliding once again at Kino Veterans Memorial Stadium to mark the Fourth of July with a classic American celebration. Pima County's "Diamonds in the Sky" event is making a much-anticipated return, inviting attendees to enjoy a collegiate baseball showdown and a dazzling fireworks show. Set for July 4, the festivities will begin with gates swinging open at 5:30 p.m., followed by the first pitch at 6:30 p.m., as reported by Pima County Newsroom.
With an admission price set at the very digestible rate of $1 or a non-perishable food item, fans will witness college all-stars from the Sun Belt College Baseball League take on a team of Mexican College all-stars. Presented by the Mexican Baseball Fiesta, this is a meeting of baseball talent across borders not to be missed. All proceeds are in support of the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, an initiative that provided more than 12,000 meals last year, offering both celebration and community assistance as the fireworks light up the night sky, according to Sarah Horvath, Kino Sports Complex Director.
Emphasizing the impact of the event, Malea Chavez, CEO of the Community Food Bank of Southern Arizona, expressed sincere gratitude for the aid this annual celebration provides. She conveyed to Pima County Newsroom, "These donations from the July 4th Diamonds in the Sky Celebration come at a critical time of year when we see the number of food drives slow down, while demand remains high."
Families looking for more than just a game and fireworks can find solace knowing that their children will seize the night with a variety of activities, including face painting, inflatable bounce houses, and games. Painted with smiles, kids and adults can feast on stadium concessions offering food and drink specials, further enriching the game day experience. Sarah Horvath emphasized the event's broad appeal, stating to Pima County Newsroom, "Kino Sports Complex is the premier facility in Southern Arizona and we couldn’t be more excited about spending the holiday with the community."
