The disturbance began with a call made at about 10:20 a.m., where, according to the report by 11Alive, a teenage girl disclosed to the dispatcher that her mother and stepfather were in a heated argument and that he had brandished a weapon. Arriving just four minutes after the call, the first officer reached a house under siege by domestic strife, the sound of an argument wafting from the backyard, shortly followed by the crack of a gunshot.
In a moment charged with volatility, the officer, according to a statement given to FOX 5 Atlanta, was met with the sight of the stepfather holding the gun, upon immediately rushing towards the backyard upon hearing the gunshot. Gwinnett County Police Sgt. Collin Flynn was quoted saying, "That male confronted the officer," leading to the officer discharging his weapon and striking the suspect in the leg.
