A Lowell man with a prior conviction for drug distribution has been handed down an 81-month prison sentence for being in possession of loaded firearms. Jey Luis Guerrero, 20, faced the music in court yesterday, following his guilty plea in February to the charges against him. U.S. District Court Chief Judge F. Dennis Saylor IV set the terms which also include a three-year stint of supervised release, as per announcements made by the authorities involved in the case.
Guerrero's legal woes are traced back to April 13, 2023, when a routine, unannounced check by his state parole officer unveiled an incriminating scene. In what appeared to be a stark defiance of the law, authorities found 12 bags of suspected fentanyl and two stolen firearms— one to quickly catch one's eye for its attached large capacity magazine—in his bedroom. This find led to immediate seizure of the drugs and weapons by the law enforcement.
The investigation and subsequent prosecution that landed Guerrero back behind bars was a collaborative effort. Acting United States Attorney Joshua S. Levy; James M. Ferguson, Special Agent in Charge of the ATF's Boston Field Division; and Lowell Police Superintendent Greg Hudon led the charge. The case success fell squarely in the lap of Assistant U.S. Attorney Philip C. Cheng from the Organized Crime & Gang Unit site (justice.gov).
