Mark your calendars, tech newbies and bibliophiles alike – the Main Library at 449 N. Drylake St. is cooking up some communal fun. To begin, it's offering free technology classes every Wednesday from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., a perfect chance to up your digital literacy game. The best part? No advanced sign-up required, so just show up and start learning.
If that's not enough to get you through the door, how about a dive into the digital deep end? "Did you know you can check out books, movies, audiobooks, and more from the library 24/7?" asks the Main Library, and indeed, tomorrow, they're set to show you the ropes on accessing their treasure trove of digital collections. And just when you think the escapade ends there, the library is soaring higher with a Saturday movie and activity day on June 29th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Snacks, movies, what's not to love? Just, remember, keep those drinks tightly sealed.
Shift gears to the pint-sized patrons – the Main Library hasn't forgotten about the young historians in town. Starting July 1, a 4th of July-themed scavenger hunt awaits the kiddos, promising prizes and, probably, a hefty dose of American history – all happening until July 6. But, take a breather on the 4th as the library will shut its doors in observance of the holiday.
Finally, for those who like their bookworm status with a side of social, the Vista Grande Library hosts monthly book discussion groups, with the next meetup set for July 1 featuring "Weyward" by Emilia Hart. "Each discussion takes place on a Monday from 11:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m.," and judging by the lineup, these gatherings seem as much about the camaraderie as they are about the prose. The subsequent titles waiting in the wings are "Black Cake" by Charmaine Wilkerson for August, and "Buried in the Sky" by Peter Zuckerman & Amanda Padoan come September.
Don't let summer slip away without engaging with your local library. Be it tech classes, digital borrowing, movies, or discussing the finer points of current literary darlings – there's something for everyone. For a complete list of events and classes, you can browse the library's offerings at their schedule. Communities and connections are being built, one page, or pixel, at a time.
