A fatal rollover crash on San Antonio's far Northwest side resulted in one fatality, as a man was ejected from his vehicle late Saturday night. The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) responded to an incident that occurred around 12:48 AM Sunday on the access road of Interstate 10 West near Camp Bullis Road, where they discovered the victim on the ground following the single-vehicle accident. FOX San Antonio reports that EMS personnel attempted life-saving measures, however, the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Details of the crash revealed by SAPD indicate the man was a back-seat passenger in a white 2024 BMW X3. The driver, in an effort to avoid hitting construction cones on the access road, lost control of the vehicle, which then traveled into the grassy median and rolled several times. The victim was subsequently ejected from the car and sustained life-threatening injuries, the vehicle came to a rest. In a chilling postscript to the initial tragedy, police reported that while they secured the crash site, a separate vehicle collided with an unoccupied patrol car on the main lanes' shoulder, an incident that fortunately did not lead to further injuries. KENS 5 disclosed the victim was 65 years old.
Investigations are currently underway by the Texas Department of Public Safety's Traffic Investigation Division (TID), and no further details have been released concerning the identity of the victim or the status of the driver involved in the accident. The secondary collision involving the patrol car is also under investigation.
