The gravity of a May tragedy resurfaces as Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell announces the indictment of 33-year-old Jamarr Dwayne Young for a slew of charges, including second-degree murder. Young found himself weaving a new thread in the fabric of his criminal tapestry, after a fatal collision that claimed the life of an unsuspecting bicyclist on May 16th. According to a press release from the Maricopa County Attorney's Office, Young was in the throes of a flight from a domestic violence situation when he collided with the cyclist.
As detailed in the prosecutor’s release, Young faces an array of charges: "One count of Second-Degree Murder, a Class One Dangerous Felony, One count of Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Accident, a Class Two Felony, One count of Unlawful Flight from Law Enforcement, a Class Five Felony, Two counts of Aggravated Assault, a Class Five Felony, One count of Resisting Arrest, a Class Six Felony, and One count of Domestic Violence Assault, a Class One Misdemeanor." Wielding a $500,000 cash-only bond, Young sits in custody, with his trial set for the autumnal turn of October 1, 2024. After being released from the Arizona Department of Corrections, at the time of his arrest, Young was on felony probation.
