The Marietta History Center has joined forces with the Blue Star Museums program this summer to offer cost-free access to its historical narrative and engaging experiences for those serving in the U.S. military and their families. As part of a nationwide initiative, the center celebrates the men and women in uniform by providing them with educational and cultural opportunities from Armed Forces Day through Labor Day.

According to a statement on the City of Marietta website, the Blue Star Museums program will run from May 18, 2024, the Armed Forces Day, until September 2, 2024, which coincides with Labor Day. Eligible participants include members of the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, Marine Corps, Navy, Space Force, Reserves, National Guard, U.S. Public Health Commissioned Corps, and NOAA Commissioned Corps.

The initiative is part of a collaboration between the National Endowment for the Arts, Blue Star Families, the Department of Defense, and museums across the country. All types of institutions are involved, from traditional history centers to zoos and gardens, spread out across all 50 states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Moreover, new museums have the option to join the program throughout the summer, ensuring that the roster of participating venues continues to evolve and expand.

Military personnel and their relatives can gain free entry by presenting either a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), DD Form 1173 ID card (dependent ID), DD Form 1173-1 ID card, or the Next Generation Uniformed Services (Real) ID card. The free admission program admits the military ID holder and up to five family members, as stated by the Marietta History Center’s announcement. The Marietta History Center is dedicated to sparking interest and curiosity in the rich tapestry of Marietta's past and connecting the public to its historical roots through compelling storytelling and interactive experiences.
