
A tragic traffic accident claimed the life of a Medford man yesterday afternoon on Route 2 in Concord, as reported by Massachusetts State Police. At approximately 1:10 PM, State Troopers were called to a three-vehicle incident that resulted in the fatality of 70-year-old Steven Marchand.
The sequence of events, outlined in preliminary findings, suggests that Marchand's 1984 Chevrolet Monte Carlo rear-ended a vehicle, which then collided into another. The tragic outcome of these events, saw Marchand transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead. The 26-year-old Stoughton man, operating the second vehicle, sustained minor injuries, he was also transported to an area hospital. The third driver involved was reported uninjured.
Following the crash, the left lane of Route 2 eastbound was closed for approximately two hours as emergency services, including Concord PD, Concord Fire and EMS, and MassDOT, provided assistance. State Police have confirmed that the crash investigation is ongoing, and it is being conducted by Troop A, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section.
As the community grapples with this loss, the road has since been reopened. The State Police have not yet released further details regarding the cause of the collision, and the investigation continues to uncover how this routine journey on a Wednesday afternoon turned fatal. Community members have not yet commented, on the crash but the ripple effects of such accidents are felt far and wide, stretching to the furthest reaches of families and communities connected by these tragically woven threads of fate.
