Commuters in Memphis, it's time to plan for a slight detour in your journey. The City of Memphis has announced that on Monday, June 17, White Station Road will be closed off between Park Avenue and Poplar Avenue.
The closure, which will span from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., is to allow Norfolk Southern Railroad to conduct repairs on the tracks that traverse White Station Road. Residents can find solace, though; local traffic will maintain access up to the railroad tracks near Poplar Avenue. However, the typical through traffic that frequents this corridor will need to seek alternate pathways.
For drivers accustomed to traveling along White Station Road between these two major avenues, the city has put in place a detour. The suggested auxiliary route includes a signed detour directing vehicles to utilize Poplar Avenue, Truse Parkway, Mt. Moriah Road, and Park Avenue, to mitigate congestion and streamline the vehicular flow around the construction site.
While the inconvenience of rerouting transportation is a foreseeable headache, the repairs are essential for the upkeep of infrastructure that supports both the commerce and the commuters of the city. Drivers are encouraged to allow additional travel time or adjust their routines to accommodate anticipated travel time increases on detour paths. Check local news or the City of Memphis website on traffic updates and road closures.
