An Uber driver in Memphis became the victim of a carjacking incident early Wednesday morning, June 12, when a passenger, identified as 27-year-old Faith-Ann Mittons, commandeered the vehicle. According to Local Memphis, the rideshare driver had picked up Mittons from the 5200 block of Summer Avenue around 4:25 a.m., following her request to ride around without a particular destination.

After obliging the woman with a drive around town for an extended time, the driver returned to the initial location. "When the driver returned her to the previous location, police said Mittons forced the driver out of the car and took off in it," Local Memphis reported. Investigators were led to Mittons' identity by a security guard at the hotel from where she was picked up. Later that day, the Memphis Police Department apprehended Mittons during a traffic stop at I-40 and Sycamore View, where she was found driving the stolen car alone, as per Action News 5.

Faith-Ann Mittons is charged with carjacking and as of last reports, remains in the Shelby County Jail with her bond set at $75,000. WREG highlighted that Mittons' first court appearance is scheduled for Thursday following her arrest.

This carjacking adds to a concerning trend in crimes involving rideshare drivers, following a recent attempt where a driver was shot after suspects tried to steal his vehicle. The incident underscores the potential risks that rideshare drivers may encounter, even when seemingly routine requests, such as listening to music, might unfold into dangerous situations.
