
The Metropolitan Police Department is currently probing a recent traffic incident that ended in tragedy. According to a statement from the MPD, a fatal crash involving a motorized scooter occurred early last Monday in Northeast D.C.
The accident took place on June 17, 2024, when 29-year-old Yeferson Josue Dominguez Valero was riding south on New Hampshire Avenue. In an attempt to travel straight through a right turn deceleration lane, his 2023 Jiajue Razor 150 motorized scooter collided with a raised median, the scooter flipped, casting Valero onto the traffic island. The MPD reports that the crash happened at 1:28 a.m., near the intersection of New Hampshire Avenue and Eastern Avenue, NE.
Following the incident, emergency services rushed Valero to a local hospital to address his severe injuries. However, despite medical efforts, on June 19, Valero succumbed to his injuries and passed away. The late Valero was a Northwest resident, as identified by authorities. The investigation into the crash remains ongoing, as officials are piecing together the circumstances leading up to the fatal event.
The MPD has not disclosed any further details regarding potential factors that contributed to the crash, such as speed, or traffic signals, at the time of the incident.
