Officers were dispatched at around 11:43 p.m. to the 1700 block of Benning Road, Northeast, following reports of gunshot noises. Upon their arrival, they discovered an adult male who had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. Despite being promptly transported to a local hospital, the victim succumbed to his injuries. An ongoing investigation is now in motion to fully ascertain the circumstances surrounding the man's death and to locate the person or persons responsible.
The deceased has been identified, according to the Metropolitan Police Department, as 45-year-old Darryl Williams, who reportedly was of no fixed address. The announcement did not release further details about the identity of the person of interest nor any potential motives for the shooting.
