Two Michigan men are now behind bars following a shooting incident that targeted a home in Eastpointe, where multiple individuals including six children were present, according to local authorities. The incident, which took place in the early hours of Tuesday morning, was initially reported by CBS News Detroit. The Eastpointe Police Department responded to an assault with intent to murder complaint at around 1:10 a.m. in the 16000 block of Forest. Upon arrival, they learned the homeowner had been embroiled in an ongoing feud with his ex-girlfriend's new partner, who is the alleged shooter in this case.
The dispute escalated to violence when the ex-girlfriend's new boyfriend reportedly fired several shots into the house, no one sustained injuries. Shortly thereafter, the suspect, accompanied by another man, was observed entering his residence in St. Clair County, triggering a response from local law enforcement. As deputies approached, the suspects ran into the house and barricaded themselves inside, reported Macomb Daily. Eastpointe detectives obtained a search warrant, enabling St. Clair County SWAT and the Port Huron Special Response Team to execute a search that led to the apprehension of both individuals. During the standoff, "multiple items of evidence" were seized by the authorities.
The suspects were subsequently taken into custody after a standoff in St. Clair County. According to WWJ Newsradio, the police chase ended at the Americana Estates Mobile Home Park in Casco Township. Law enforcement agencies including the St. Clair County Sheriff's Office, a K9 unit, SWAT team, Macomb County Sheriff's deputies, and Richmond Police, all responded to assist in the situation. Once surrounded, the suspects initially resisted compliance but eventually, after negotiations, surrendered without further conflict.
The names of the individuals involved have not been released, yet charges are pending as the case awaits a review by the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office. The Eastpointe Police Department has acknowledged the cooperation across several law enforcement agencies in managing to resolve this alarming situation safely. As stated by Detective Lt. Alexander Holish of the Eastpointe Police, “The suspect, a resident of St. Clair County, fired numerous shots into the house which was occupied by multiple victims, six of whom were children,” as found in the coverage by Macomb Daily.
