Milton's firefighters are bringing back their babysitting course later this month, designed to arm young caregivers with the skills they need to keep children safe and sound. Slated for Saturday, June 29, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Safe Sitter program will cover a range of topics, from first aid to how to act in the event of a power outage or severe weather. According to a recent announcement from Milton's official website, the course will take place at Fire Station 43, located at 750 Hickory Flat Road.
This isn't your average sitter session – participants, who can sign up online on Milton's official website, are in for six hours of critical hands-on training. Facilitated by firefighter and medical professional Brandi Sadowski, the curriculum includes changing diapers, basic first aid, and even a run-through of essential business skills such as marketing and setting rates. Interested parties, especially those over the age of 10, should register for the class soon. The course costs $75, which covers all instructional expenses, according to Milton's official website.
It's an interactive experience that promises to keep attendees engaged through practical exercises. The goal is to ensure that these lessons stick. Sadowski, a mom herself, knows the ropes and is a certified Safe Sitter instructor; she brings personal experience to the table. "The June 29 class is very much interactive," the town’s statement reads, emphasizing that those who join can expect activities designed to reinforce their newly acquired knowledge.
The initiative by Milton's Fire-Rescue Department, dubbed Milton Fire CARES, is aimed at spreading fundamental public health and safety measures among young minds. Their previous edition in May caught the eye and earned positive feedback, which can only hint at the potential impact this round may have. Though the class is capped at just 12 individuals, to keep things intimate and effective, it's sure to fill fast. Attendees are reminded to bring their own meals and snacks, and for more details, Milton Fire CARES is open for inquiries at [email protected].
