Keeping up with local happenings in Milton just got a notch easier. Residents can now sign up for text alerts that will deliver the latest scoop on everything from road closures to city council meetings straight to their phones. In an effort to ramp up its communication game, the City of Milton is rolling out this new texting service which allows people to choose from a range of topics they're interested in, as detailed by a recent city announcement.

For those always on-the-move citizens, the service promises to be a direct line to information that impacts their day-to-day lives, whether it's emergency traffic alerts or knowing if a little league game has been washed out by rain. Want in? Simply head over to the city’s website or grab the Everbridge app, search for Milton, and follow the instructions to get set up. As per the city's partnership with Everbridge, adopting a text-based tool marks Milton's spot among the front runners of local governments leveraging modern tech to keep their residents informed.

According to the city's communications director, Greg Botelho, "Text alerts may be the most effective tool available to directly share info, which is why we’re excited to offer them to our community." This new layer of communication complements existing channels like social media and email newsletters, which the city will continue updating with the same frequency as before.

Although the system is still a work in progress and not yet fully operational, with more personnel receiving training to disseminate information efficiently, officials are optimistic about its potential. Designed to be succinct, the text messages will include links for more details when necessary, and the Everbridge app promises even more content for those opting in, "We're committed to doing what we can to let people know what’s happening in their city," Botelho told www.miltonga.gov.

While the primary purpose of this system is to send voluntary alerts on requested topics, it also has the capability to broadcast emergency communications in severe situations—such as a tornado or an active shooter—to potentially over 25,000 phones. It's a modern way to ensure that in times of crisis, critical information can be rapidly shared with those who might be affected. Those experiencing technical difficulties or looking for more information are encouraged to reach out to Everbridge directly or the City’s communications team for assistance.
