
The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) seeks help from the public to identify a suspect in the shooting death of a Northwest man, Maurice Downing. Downing, 34, was found deceased from gunshot wounds on the road in the early hours of May 29, according to a press release from MPD.
Answering a shooting report, officers arrived at the scene, located on the unit block of Hanover Place, Northwest, at 12:03 a.m. Wednesday. Downing, having sustained gunshot wounds, died at the location where he was discovered. The MPD's press release specified that the MPD's Homicide Branch is conducting the investigation.
Surveillance video of a suspect has been made available by MPD, which can be viewed on their official website. Authorities are urging anyone who can provide information about this incident or the individual in the footage to come forward and assist in the resolution of this case.
As investigations continue, the community is left grappling with the tragic loss of Downing, whose life was abruptly ended. The MPD has announced a reward of up to $25,000 for anyone who provides information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for any homicide committed in the District of Columbia, as stated in their announcement.
