A concerted effort has been mounted by local Nashville businessmen to offer a $10,000 reward for details that would lead to the apprehension and indictment of a suspect involved in the hit-and-run incident that left Matthew Carney, a 42-year-old restaurant owner, in a critical condition. The incident took place last Wednesday, just before 6 p.m., near Carney's business, Smokin Thighs, located on Wedgewood Avenue, as noted in a press release from the Metro Nashville Police Department.
Witnesses have reportedly seen a black pickup truck, dating from the 1980s to early 2000s, speeding from behind the restaurant before entering Wedgewood Avenue, where Carney was thrown onto the pavement from said vehicle. Carney's own vehicle, found running with the door open, abandoned as if a hasty retreat from an unseen menace had been made, suggests a sudden and violent altercation occurred. Currently admitted at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Carney remains unconscious and unable to provide his account of the events that led to his serious injuries.
The description of the suspect, a white male with short hair, as well as the vehicle—a black pickup truck—has been circulated, with the Nashville community urged to come forward with any relevant information. Crime Stoppers has added an unspecified monetary amount to the initial $10,000 pledge made by local businessmen, intensifying the call for justice. The pickup truck is believed to have made a right turn onto Bransford Avenue, heading outbound after the incident.
The call for information is not just the sound of a community seeking retribution, but a rallying cry for anyone who can shine light on the obscured sequences of calamity that befell one of their own. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Nashville Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463. The profound hope is that such community-led initiatives, bolstered by the financial incentives, will lead to a decisive breakthrough in the case, offering some form of solace to Carney's family and the broader Nashville area rattled by this act of violence.
