A New Bedford man with a history of drug offenses was arrested yet again on charges of trafficking fentanyl, according to local law enforcement officials. The arrest of Jose Santiago, 46, came as a conclusion to an investigation led by narcotics Det. Emily Pacheco, focusing on a distribution operation that Santiago purportedly ran from his residence at 113 Reynolds St.
Authorities executed a search warrant at the stated location on Monday, June 10, 2024, and among the items discovered, were over 200 grams of fentanyl, 5 grams of psychedelic mushrooms, digital scales, various packaging materials, and the sum of $215, seized due to the nature of the resulting charges, as reported by the New Bedford Police Department. In the wake of the search, Santiago was taken into custody.
The charges against Santiago include trafficking over 200 grams of fentanyl and possession with intent to distribute class A substances, among others. This recent arrest adds to Santiago's already-established criminal record regarding drug trafficking. He has a previous conviction for trafficking in heroin and has pleaded guilty to drug charges in the U.S. District court not long before this latest apprehension.
Law enforcement is urging anyone with information related to criminal activities to come forward. Reports can be made anonymously, either through the official website or by calling a hotline at 508-99-CRIME, to assist in the continuation of efforts to curb drug trafficking.
