San Antonio's local community and the sphere of young athletes alike have a fresh spot to lace up and show off their skills with the latest unveiling of the new public half-court at The Rock at La Cantera. Proving that sports and social responsibilities can indeed form a dream team, Spurs Give and Coca-Cola joined hands to cut the ribbon on this Spurs-themed basketball haven, as reported by FOX San Antonio.
The reveal of the court was more than just a nod to the local sports fanatics; it also served to kick off an inclusive basketball clinic hosted by Spurs Sports Academy for kids aged 7 to 14. The hoop dreams bloomed beautifully over the weekend, with a goal to not only to teach, but also to firmly plant the seeds of passion for basketball in San Antonio's youth. Dr. Kara Allen of Spurs Sport and Entertainment did not hesitate to emphasize the invitation to the broader community, stating, "The Rock at La Cantera is more than just a practice facility for our team, it’s a space for all of our San Antonio community to gather and connect," as she told Pounding the Rock. The court's availability for public enjoyment importantly stretches from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
Spurs Give doesn't plan to just let the new infrastructure sit pretty amid the bustling La Cantera landscape. True to their core of not only fostering future basketball talents but also to encourage overall community well-being, plans are already on the table to use this half-court to host future health and wellness events, as well as more basketball clinics to further engage with the locals.
Indeed, the establishment of The Rock at La Cantera echoes the Spurs' resonant commitment to the city, as the $500 million legacy project spans not only the new basketball facilities, but also extends to include the Victory Capital Performance Center and Frost Plaza, among other amenities. It’s clear that for the Spurs, it’s not just about leaving a legacy on the court, but it’s also about building foundations that will stand to benefit the community of San Antonio for generations to come. In the same vein of nurturing connection, this urban sports landmark opens up an accessible avenue for gathering, gaming, and undeniably, growing together, under the San Antonio sun.
