An Oakland County man has died following a motorcycle crash that occurred more than a week earlier in Commerce Township. Joshua Steven Moomaw, aged 40, succumbed to his injuries on June 24th after the incident took place on the evening of June 16th. According to the Audacy, Moomaw and his wife were hit from behind by an SUV while waiting to make a left turn onto Stratford Villa Way from northbound Wixom Road.
The details, released by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, indicate that the SUV was driven by a 59-year-old Commerce man, who apparently did not stop for the motorcycle. Strikingly, neither victim was wearing a helmet when the tragic crash unfolded. Moomaw's wife, hospitalized due to the collision, has been released since. It is reported by Mid-Michigan NOW that paramedics responded to the scene and transported the couple to the hospital shortly after the crash happened.
The driver of the Toyota Sienna, however, emerged from the incident unscathed and was reportedly wearing a seatbelt. While the investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit is underway, early indications suggest that neither alcohol nor drugs were contributing factors to the crash.
