In the early hours of this morning, a devastating blaze tore through a vacant apartment building in Seattle’s Ravenna neighborhood, leaving one person deceased and three injured. According to a report released by the Seattle Fire Department, the alarm sounded at 3:50 a.m., drawing immediate response from emergency crews to the scene at the 900 block of NE. 63rd St.
Officials disclosed that upon arrival, firefighters were met by an adult male who had managed to escape the burning structure, he informed them of additional individuals trapped on the top floor. Acting on this information, the fire personnel swiftly set up ladders to rescue those inside. The rescue operation saw one person carried out from a fourth-floor window and safely down a ladder, while two others were led down the stairs and out from the flames. On site, medical crews attended to these four individuals, including the informant with minor injuries, who, along with an adult female with similar minor injuries, did not need to be hospitalized.
A male, approximately 40 years old, was in critical condition and had to be rushed to a hospital for urgent medical attention. Tragically, firefighters' efforts to save another adult female were in vain as she was pronounced dead at the scene. Teams continued to search the premises to ensure everyone had been accounted for. The fire was largely subdued by 4:40 a.m., and crews labored on extinguishing residual hot spots.
Authorities took precautions by having Puigeut Sound Energy and Seattle City Light cut off natural gas and electricity to the address. At this time, the cause of the fire remains under investigation. This calamity strikes as the building's second in just under a month, following a previous incident on May 8. The full extent of the damage and the investigation's progress will be followed up on in subsequent reports.
