In Palm Beach, Florida, a local boutique owner was arrested under charges of selling counterfeit luxury goods. Olena Austin, 51, faces allegations involving over $20,000 worth of fake items. According to an investigation conducted by Palm Beach police and initiated by information from the FBI, her stores, Blesk Jewelry, were allegedly trading in knock-offs of high-end designer brands, as reported by WPTV.
Detectives, as detailed by a CBS12 report, began to look into her business last fall and executed search warrants at both store locations on Worth Ave and S County Rd. In what police described as a bid to perhaps unduly protect their illicit revenue, roughly 800 counterfeit items were seized, falsely labeled as premium products from the lines of Chanel, Van Cleef & Arpel, and other luxury brands, estimating the value of these goods at over $2 million if authentic.
The investigation's outcome led to the seizure of about $4,294, believed to be proceeds from the fraudulent sales. Capt. Will Rothrock expressed the impact of such schemes, stating, "When they're selling these items at such a reduced value, they're taking away from legitimate purchases for small businesses," as he told WPTV. The blow to local businesses, alongside deceiving unsuspecting customers, underlines the broader ramifications of counterfeit operations.
A business named "A Action Investigations & Security Inc.," serving as a brand representative for the duped designers, was listed as the victim in the affidavit. However, they offered no comment to the media. A Palm Beach County judge has since set Austin's bond at $50,000, with jail records confirming her release as of 12:51 p.m. on Friday, as per WPTV report.
