A Redwood City man's freedom was short-lived after allegedly attempting a brazen carjacking and kidnapping on Saturday while out on parole. Josue A. Hernandez, 27, sat in the front passenger seat of an occupied vehicle and forced the driver to make a U-turn in North Fair Oaks before ditching the car and running off, said the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials stated that the incident unfolded around 6 p.m. at Middlefield Rd. and Pacific Ave. After Hernandez botched the first carjacking attempt, he turned to a second vehicle, employing intimidation rather than physical force. Without having used a weapon, the suspect ended up fleeing the scene on foot before law enforcement officers could get to him, the Sheriff’s Office noted.
The area swarmed with Sheriff’s deputies, who were able to apprehend Hernandez shortly after the incident. Hernandez, found a mere two blocks away at 4th Ave. and Middlefield Rd., was taken into custody, San Mateo County Sheriff's Office reported.
Hernandez now faces charges of carjacking, kidnapping, and a parole violation. He was booked into Maguire Correctional Facility with no reported injuries stemming from his alleged crimes, authorities confirmed. Individuals with any information related to this incident are urged to contact Sergeant Gaby Chaghouri at [email protected] or call 650-363-4911. The Sheriff's Office has also made an anonymous Tip Line available at 1-800-547-2700 for those who wish to provide information without revealing their identity.
