A tragic hit-and-run incident in Hallandale Beach, Florida, has resulted in the death of a 45-year-old bicyclist, identified as Ricardo Gray, according to Hallandale Beach Police. The event occurred early Friday morning between 4 and 5 a.m. on the 500 block of South Federal Highway, as reported by WSVN. Police responded to the call at around 8 a.m., after which Gray was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators are in pursuit of the perpetrator, currently believed to be driving a black sedan with suspected damage to the front-end, on either the driver or passenger side. The police, along with devastated family members, are making a public plea for assistance. Gray's aunt, Norma Morris, reflected the family's grief and the demand for accountability in a heart-wrenching lament, "It’s not fair, it is just not fair," she told Local 10 News.
Family members have been left reeling by the sudden and violent loss. Gray, who until recently lived with his aunt Morris, was en route to his job at Gulfstream Park when his life was abruptly ended. Morris, reminiscent of the familial bond and recent independence she encouraged in him, expressed her anguish and a universal call for justice: "I told him to go two months. Ago and to start his own life, because he was leaning on me, and then somebody took his life," she disclosed in an interview with Local 10 News.
The severity of the incident was such that Gray's bicycle was shattered into pieces upon impact. "If that person would have stayed on scene, they could have saved our victim’s life," stated Capt. Megan Jones, a spokesperson for the Hallandale Beach Police, when describing the gravity of the driver's actions. The family and law enforcement officials are united in their appeal to the public for any information that can lead to the capture and prosecution of the responsible individual. "This family is grieving, they have lost a loved one and we need justice," Jones said, urging anyone with information to step forward, as per Local 10 News.
Broward County Crime Stoppers is offering a reward of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of the hit-and-run driver responsible for Gray's death. Anybody with potential leads or knowledge of the incident is encouraged to contact the Crime Stoppers line at 954-493-TIPS to assist in the ongoing investigation and to help provide closure to a grieving family seeking justice.
