Jesse Calhoun, a man facing charges for the murder of three women in the Portland area, has been moved to Multnomah County jail, as reported by KGW. Calhoun, who was indicted on May 17 on three counts each of second-degree murder and second-degree abuse of a corpse, was previously held at the Snake River Correctional Center in eastern Oregon after being arrested on unrelated parole warrants in June 2023.
The three counts of murder Calhoun is charged with concern the deaths of 24-year-old Charity Lynn Perry, 31-year-old Bridget Leanne Webster, and 32-year-old Joanna Speaks, whose bodies were discovered in wooded or secluded areas around Portland in April of 2023. According to KPTV, the authorities have not scheduled a court date for his arraignment following the transfer.
In addition to the indicted offenses, Calhoun was named as a person of interest in the deaths of Kristin Smith and Ashley Real, both 22, but as of now, he has not been charged in connection with those cases. Moreover, KOIN reported that the arraignment for the current charges is slated for 9 a.m. Thursday morning.
While details on the case continue to develop, public attention has been drawn to the need for a swifter judicial process. Calhoun's past criminal history, alongside his recent transfer, suggests a pattern that has deeply affected the Portland community. Kristin Smith was first reported missing in December 2022 and found later in a wooded Portland area, and Ashley Real's body was discovered in the Eagle Creek area on Sunday, May 7, as noted by the coverage from KOIN.
