Despite medical efforts, Burnett succumbed to his injuries two days later on Friday, June 14, as stated by the Medical Examiner’s office, the cause of death was due to homicidal violence, the Medical Examiner determined that Burnett's death was a result of homicidal violence. At this time, Burnett's family has requested privacy; however, they have shared a photograph of Burnett for public dissemination, as can be seen in the official report issued by the Portland Police Bureau on June 21st.

The ongoing investigation into the homicide is being led by the Portland Police Bureau's Homicide Unit.
