A recent assault in Portland's Northwest District has resulted in the death of a local man, the Portland Police Bureau reports. The incident occurred on the 1900 block of Northwest Everett Street, where officers discovered 51-year-old O’Marr Burnett severely injured after responding to an assault notification on Wednesday, June 12, 2024; Burnett was then rushed to a hospital for treatment,
Despite medical efforts, Burnett succumbed to his injuries two days later on Friday, June 14, as stated by the Medical Examiner’s office, the cause of death was due to homicidal violence, the Medical Examiner determined that Burnett's death was a result of homicidal violence. At this time, Burnett's family has requested privacy; however, they have shared a photograph of Burnett for public dissemination, as can be seen in the official report issued by the Portland Police Bureau on June 21st.
The ongoing investigation into the homicide is being led by the Portland Police Bureau's Homicide Unit. No suspects have been apprehended and the circumstances surrounding the assault remain unclear, the police have not yet made any arrests in the case nor have they released any suspect information to the public.
Authorities are urging anyone with information related to this case to come forward to aid in the investigation and provision of justice for Burnett's untimely death, the Portland Police Bureau urges witnesses or individuals with information to come forward in order to assist with the ongoing investigation.
