In a surprising turn of events in Rabun County, a real estate agent and two others have been indicted for pilfering a trove of antique treasures, valued at over $28,000, from a home known as the 'castle house,' currently up for grabs on the property market. The brazen burglary stripped the owner, a 69-year-old woman, of several unique and expensive items, including a rare laurel timber and deer antler chair, a full suit of armor, and an assortment of other irreplaceable artifacts, according to FOX5 Atlanta.
The 'castle house' owner identified as Laura Moon, was jolted by the audacious theft, but the circumstances took an even more dramatic turn when the burglars, after realizing their pilferage was reported to law enforcement, contacted her in an alleged attempt to negotiate, as she told WSBTV. In a sting operation set up by deputies with Moon, they apprehended two suspects red-handed, a red Dodge Ram their chariot, holding the stolen loot in its rear.
Upon inspecting hours of surveillance footage, the Rabun County Sheriff's Office clamped down on 42-year-old Richard Green and 34-year-old Lacey Oliver, both slapped with first-degree burglary charges. Meanwhile, not just petty thieves but from the ranks of purportedly respectable society, Maria Rodeghiero, 77, the homeowner's own real estate agent, found herself in handcuffs for obstruction after allegdly scheming to fence some of the stolen goods and schooling the thieves on evasion tactics.
These nefarious acts have stirred not just the local community but beckon a reminder of the ceaseless breach of trust that festers like a wound in the facade of transactional relationships; the Sheriffs Office is urging anyone with further insights to step forward, as the investigation continues per the authorities' plea for public assistance.
