Earlier today, tragedy struck on the South Side of San Antonio as a house fire claimed the life of a puppy and ravaged a family home. According to KENS 5, fire crews responded to the emergency in the 200 block of West Dickson Avenue shortly before 6 a.m., where they discovered flames had already spread from the exterior into the garage and through to the interior, rendering the house a total loss.
The resident of the home was alerted to the danger by her dog and managed to safely escape the blaze. However, a puppy was not so fortunate and perished in the fire. The loss extends to a vehicle that was parked inside the garage as well, which fire officials have confirmed was destroyed. The San Antonio Fire Department mobilized as many as 14 units to combat the flames, a detail shared by both KSAT and KENS 5. An investigation to accurately determine the cause of the fire is ongoing.
