
Tragedy struck on the far west side of San Antonio early Thursday morning as a house fire claimed the lives of three cats and left a family dog unaccounted for, with flames quickly spreading from a garage to the main residence. KENS 5 reported that firefighters arrived at the home, located on the 700 block of Cypressbrook Drive, around 4:45 a.m. to find the property fully engulfed in flames; the homeowners, who had witnessed the initial smoke in their kitchen, managed to escape, but their pets were less fortunate with three cats unable to make it out and their dog becoming missing.
According to details from a News 4 San Antonio report, the fire that started before 5 a.m. also caused damage to a neighboring house, firefighters worked to contain the fire and prevent further damage however no injuries to human occupants were reported during the incident. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and the damage incurred is estimated to be around $150,000.
Local authorities continue to explore the origin of the fire. The San Antonio Fire Department has not released additional information regarding potential leads on the cause or detailed the extent of the damage beyond financial estimates and loss of pets.
