A Jiu Jitsu instructor from San Antonio has been apprehended on suspicions of sexually assaulting a child. Joseph Rene Caballero, 40, who owns and instructs at The Exception Squad located on Culebra Road, allegedly initiated "grooming-type behavior" toward a student during the period of October to December 2023, leading to multiple incidences of assault over a span of weeks, as reported by KENS 5.
Details from the Bexar County Sheriff's Office, relayed by Sheriff Javier Salazar, reveal that the victim received anonymous notes from Caballero after ending a relationship with someone their age. These notes marked the beginning of a series of events where Caballero is said to have "courted" the student before eventually sexually assaulting her. This gripping narrative unfolded only after the student confided in family members about the ordeal, prompting an official investigation.
Following the student's accusations, KSAT coverage indicates that the Bexar County Sheriff's Office detained Caballero, charging him with sexual assault of a child — a second-degree felony. Caballero has since been released on a $75,000 bond and is barred from any interaction with minors, save for his own children.
With The Exception Squad purportedly still operating, Sheriff Salazar and his team are concerned about the plight of potential additional victims. They urge anyone with relevant information to step forward, encouraging them to contact the Bexar County Sheriff's Office at 210-335-6000 or via email at [email protected].
