The standoff between a man and the Bexar County Sheriff’s deputies which lasted for five taxing hours, resolved without further incident yesterday. A 48-year-old man, identified as Adrian King Pena, was involved in an alleged assault of a woman with a handgun and subsequently barricaded himself inside his residence with a child. The dramatic sequence unfolded just after midnight in the 500 block of Red Quill Nest near Potranco Road on the far west side of San Antonio.
According to FOX San Antonio, deputies responded to a call about an assault in progress. Upon their arrival, Pena refused to quickly come out of his home, initiating the standoff. The woman implicated in the assault managed to escape the building before law enforcement arrived on the scene.
Ensuring no harm came to the neighborhood, surrounding homes were promptly evacuated, as the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office SWAT negotiators strived to peacefully bring the situation to a close. As per reports by KENS 5, the child that was inside the home was fortunately found unharmed after Pena surrendered to deputies.
The Bexar County Sheriff’s Office later announced that Adrian King Pena had been charged with Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and was subsequently booked into the Bexar County Jail. What was to truly become a peaceful end to a potential crisis began to take shape just before 5:20 a.m., when Pena peacefully surrendered to the deputies, as reported by FOX San Antonio. An official investigation into the incident has been ongoing.
