A shocking family tragedy has left the community of San Antonio grappling with disbelief after a 15-year-old boy allegedly shot and killed his mother, 37-year-old Luz Aurora Gonzalez. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon in the 1500 block of Delgado Street, as confirmed by local authorities and the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office.
As reported by KSAT, Gonzalez was shot in the back of the head with a shotgun and pronounced dead at the scene. The teen suspect, her son, was taken into law enforcement custody following the fatal shooting. The family, now dealing with the immense sorrow of losing a loved one and the stark reality of another facing grave criminal charges, is trying to comprehend the motive behind such a violent act.
"It doesn’t feel real to me that my mom is no longer here," Iluminada Torres, the 17-year-old daughter of the deceased and sister to the accused, told KSAT in an emotional statement. But clarity on what transpired that Tuesday afternoon remains elusive. Torres, who witnessed the confrontation, described a scene that swiftly escalated from a normal conversation to raising voices that ended with her brother shooting their mother. The family conveyed their intricate dynamics, including the detail that Teresa Salazar, the victim's 91-year-old mother, had a protective order against Gonzalez but still allowed her to visit the home occasionally. "It was good times, and it was bad times," said Salazar, describing her relationship with her daughter.
With seven children left behind, the family's grief is compounded by the loss of Gonzalez, whom her daughter Iluminada remembered: "She was the happiest person that you will ever see walking down the street." Salazar, amidst her sorrow, found a painful solace in her granddaughter's resemblance to her late daughter. "This is her face…So, I sit here and I see my daughter," she expressed to News 4 San Antonio.
The young suspect is expected to make his first appearance in juvenile court on Thursday morning, with at least one family member, his older sister, confirming their attendance.
