According to CBS News Texas, the alert has now been canceled. The teen had last been seen early Thursday morning, June 13, at a Costco parking lot in her hometown.
First reported missing from the 191 W Loop 1604 Costco parking lot by FOX San Antonio, Cardenas was found on the following Sunday evening. Details surrounding her discovery have not been released. Cardenas was last seen with a woman in her mid to late 40s, suspected of driving a silver Ford Fusion at the time of her disappearance.
Texas leads the nation in the number of Amber Alerts, with data from the 2023 Annual Amber Alert Report emphasizing the state's disproportionate share. Of the 185 Amber Alerts issued across 36 states from January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023, 49 were in Texas, equating to 26% of the total. North Carolina and Ohio followed, with 17 and 13 alerts, respectively. The system has been critical in engaging the public to assist in the search for missing children.
