In what can only be deemed a paw-sitively heartwarming event, the annual picnic in San Francisco has unofficially set the world record for the largest gathering of three-legged dogs, as reported by SFist. The Tri-Pawed Picnic organizer, Piedmont resident Franny "Panny" Corsick, claimed a count of 94 tri-pawed canines congregated at Little Marina Green this past Sunday, as per The San Francisco Standard report.

Corsick, who notably has never owned a tri-pawed dog, was inspired to start the picnic 15 years ago after encountering a three-legged dog capering around Duboce Park. "I thought, 'What's up with that dog?'" Corsick recounted to The San Francisco Standard. The picnic has grown substantially since its inaugural event, which managed to attract only a few canine participants. This year's turnout has yet to be officially verified by the Guinness Book of World Records, whose current record is 75 three-legged dogs.

Judy Richardson, who journeyed from Pacifica with her three-legged dog Luna Bean, has been a regular at the picnic since approximately 2017. Richardson shared with The San Francisco Standard the story of Luna Bean's transition from four legs to three due to an irreparable injury necessitating an amputation. "I’ve had a tri-pawed before, so it wasn’t the end of the world—and she’s just been a joy," she said.

The social aspect of the event is a big draw for attendees, providing an opportunity for them to bond over shared experiences and exchange touching stories about their canine companions. Richardson expressed her fondness for the event via The San Francisco Standard: "It’s great to walk around and meet the dogs and say, 'Oh, how did your dog lose its leg?' And just exchanging information and a lot of 'awwws.' It’s truly a social event. It’s fabulous." This sentiment was also echoed by a Facebook post on the Tri Pawed Dogs official page thanking participants for the joy and laughter shared at the event.

For some regulars, like Trina Chow and her nine-year-old dog Wallace, the Tri-Pawed Picnic is more than an annual gathering. It's a place to showcase unique skills—Wallace has attended a canine circus school in Oakland.
