Pima County has officially appointed Sarah Horvath as the new director of the Kino Sports Complex and Stadium District – a move that's slated to usher in a new era for the thriving Tucson sports hub. With Horvath at the helm, who has been part of the Kino team as deputy director since February and has a wealth of experience in finance and operations, officials are looking forward to seeing her drive the facility to even greater heights.
The announcement was made in a June 10 memo, according to a Pima County news release, and comes as a strategic step to fill the void left by director Reenie Ochoa's retirement. Before stepping up to quickly become the deputy director last July, Horvath spent over a decade in Pima County's Department of Finance & Risk Management, and even before that, dipped her feet into waterpark operations for nine years.
"As a Tucson native and sports enthusiast, I am very excited to take on the director role and help Kino grow into the future," Horvath stated in the Pima County release. She emphasizes that sports played a pivotal role during her formative years, coupling her operational expertise with a personal passion for athletics.
Over the years, Kino Sports Complex has transformed from a spring training home for MLB teams into a sports mecca that offers facilities for professional soccer, college baseball, and a myriad of community events. Horvath aims to continually push the complex, to become a premier destination for sports, recreation, entertainment, and community engagement, a sentiment she expressed with enthusiasm in her statement.
Pima County Administrator Jan Lesher lauded Horvath's trajectory and expertise, expressing confidence in her capabilities: "We're lucky to have someone with Sarah’s knowledge and experience leading the way as we embark upon new and exciting opportunities at the Stadium District."
