Authorities are currently on the lookout for Anthony Tarin, a 53-year-old man who absconded from the Los Angeles County Male Community Reentry Program (MCRP) on the evening of June 9, 2024. As per reports from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation, which were shared by KTLA, Tarin was discovered to have left the facility at approximately 6:13 p.m. It was less than fifteen minutes thereafter that agents were notified that his GPS tracking device had been removed.
Tarin's physical description indicates he is five feet, six inches tall, and weighs around 155 pounds, with hazel eyes and brown hair—although a provided photo suggests he is bald. He was last observed wearing a gray T-shirt paired with gray sweatpants. The CDCR has issued a call to the public, urging anyone with information on Tarin's whereabouts to immediately contact law enforcement or to call 911. Evidently, Tarin was sentenced to serve two years and eight months for attempted robbery, classified as a second-strike offense, and has been part of the MCRP since April 8, 2024, after being received from L.A. County on October 24, 2023.
The MCRP is a voluntary initiative designed to aid male offenders, who are nearing the end of their sentences, to integrate back into society successfully. According to information provided by the CDCR, the program connects participants to various community-based rehabilitative services, aimed to support those dealing with substance use disorders, mental health concerns, and other challenges in social readjustment. The effectiveness of these programs is underscored by the CDCR's citing that since 1977, 99 percent of all individuals who have left an adult institution, camp, or community-based program without permission have been successfully apprehended.
