Flames erupted in a Seattle apartment building early this morning, forcing out residents as the blaze climbed from the first floor up through the second and third. According to the Seattle Fire Department, the fire began in the Kenwood/Little Brook neighborhood at approximately 1:47 a.m. and swiftly engulfed three units of an apartment on NE 145th St.
When Engine 39 reached the scene, it was noted that the fire was aggressively advancing to the upper floors. Firefighters took rapid action to douse the flames on the exterior while teams inside the building ensured that all residents had evacuated safely. Though the units were occupied when the fire started, no injuries have been reported.
The firefighting squad, battling intensely against time and searing heat, managed to quell the flames by 3:05 a.m. Despite the darkness of the night, it was a small mercy that the fire did not claim any casualties. The blaze, however, left behind the unfortunate reality of displacement for the inhabitants of the three affected apartments.
In the aftermath, the American Red Cross was called in to assist those whose homes were gutted by the fire. The organization is currently providing temporary shelter for the displaced, ensuring that despite the loss, the residents are not without a roof over their heads. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, with the Fire Department working to determine what may have ignited this unfortunate event.
