A 30-year-old man has been placed under arrest following an attempted burglary and subsequent carjacking incident in Silver Spring, Maryland. Samuel Robert Bajard is currently being held without bond after police responded to reports of an attempted break-in early in the morning on June 9. WUSA9 reports that the incident occurred around 4:30 a.m. when Bajard and other suspects attempted to force entry into an apartment on Castle Boulevard by kicking the front door and throwing a rock through a window.
The resident of the apartment successfully fended off the intruders using bear spray. According to MoCo Show, after the suspects were repelled, they fled the scene. Police are still on the lookout for more suspects involved in the case. Law enforcement officials were able to identify Bajard as one suspects through the course of their investigation.
The confrontation didn't end with the attempted burglary. As Bajard and an accomplice were leaving the complex, they reportedly assaulted the driver of a Toyota Camry, commandeering the vehicle to make their escape. This sequence of events leads to Bajard being charged with additional carjacking-related charges. His arrest came after detectives obtained a warrant on June 13, as detailed by DC News Now.
By June 20, the suspect was in custody. "Bajard was arrested in Silver Spring on June 20", the arrest was confirmed by officials, and "he was taken to the Montgomery County Central Processing unit," as reported by DC News Now. While the resident's quick thinking may have prevented a more severe outcome, this incident highlights a brazen disregard for the law and personal safety. The police are urging anyone with information on the remaining suspects to come forward.
